FCS School Community At-Large:

As you know, Flint Community Schools has been diligently working on the renovation of Brownell STEM Academy and Holmes STEM Academy. While we had originally planned to hold formal ribbon-cutting ceremonies to mark the reopening of these schools, after thoughtful consideration and discussion, we have decided to adjust our approach in light of ongoing work on several key outdoor facilities. These include the playgrounds, track and field area, pickleball and basketball courts, and the Cube, which will be completed at a later date.

Given that our scholars and staff have already returned to these buildings after being temporarily relocated, we feel that it would be more meaningful and timely to celebrate their return to their newly renovated spaces with a Homecoming Celebration. This event will offer an opportunity for us to honor the resilience and hard work of our scholars, staff, parents, neighborhood association, community partners, and all those who have supported this transition.

The Homecoming Celebration and Open House for Holmes STEM Middle School Academy will take place on November 22nd and Brownell STEM Academy on November 25th, we wanted to ensure you were informed of this shift from the original ribbon-cutting plan. The event will provide a chance to gather in celebration of the progress made thus far and affirm the collaborative spirit that has helped make the renovation process possible. We believe this will also allow us to engage more meaningfully with the entire Flint community, which has been integral to this journey.
